Philip D. Perry

September 8, 1945 — March 23, 2025

Philip Donald Perry was born in Toledo, Ohio to parents Philip and Alexandria. As a child, Philip indulged his curiosity by dismantling the mechanical and electrical objects in the house. He even returned most of them back to perfect working order. This curiosity kindled his love of engineering and laid the groundwork for his career to come. Growing up, he loved sailboarding, competitive swimming, and some of his piano lessons. In school, he enjoyed excelling in subjects he liked as much as he enjoyed frustrating teachers in subjects he did not. A Boy Scout in his youth, the skills learned there he applied throughout the rest of his life.

Philip attended Macomber Vocational High School and graduated from the University of Toledo in 1970, earning a bachelor's degree in Art and Science. He met Sandra in 1965 at JCPenney, and worked long hours together to make their way through college. They exchanged vows in 1970, and took on the delightful challenge of raising their daughter, Kristen, who inherited many of his charming eccentricities.

Professionally, Philip traveled the world and worked in over 80 countries for Owens-Illinois as a senior engineer for almost 40 years. A prolific expert in his field, he was awarded a number of patents for inventions created for the company. Many engineers thrived under his seasoned expertise and insightful mentorship.

Philip was proud to serve in the Ohio National Guard and Army Reserve, and was awarded many decorations. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2005.

In his free time, he loved golfing with his father and enjoyed having a monthly breakfast with his fellow retired buddies from Owens-Illinois. Philip could also fix just about anything and his friends and family benefited greatly from this. He loved his online game time with his daughter, her spouse, and friends around the world.

Philip passed away at home at the age of 79.
