Philip B. Filipek

Philip B. Filipek, 91, Catawba Island, OH, passed away, Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, OH. Philip was born on September 29, 1926 in Meriden, CT, to Stanley and Mary (Łotka) Filipek. On August 27, 1949 in Meriden, CT, he married Dorothy J. “Dottie” Johnson and she preceded him in death on December 16, 2000. Philip served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He earned an Accounting Degree and worked as a computer programmer for New Departure - Hyatt in Bristol, CT. In 1965 he was transferred to the Sandusky, OH plant where he worked until retiring in 1988. He also previously worked part time with his brothers in Connecticut where they made Filipek Brothers Polish Kielbasa. Philip was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, 50 year member of the Catawba Island Club, member of the Port Clinton Yacht Club, Port Clinton Elks Lodge, and the Friday morning Romeo Group. He enjoyed golfing, spending time with family and friends, and telling jokes. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter: Peterann (Cliff) Siehl, granddaughter: Whitney Siehl, Marge Holihan, his longtime partner, and many nieces & nephews. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, 9 brothers & sisters, wife and 3 grandchildren. Visitation will be 10-11am, Friday, May 11, 2018 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 2370 N.E. Catawba Rd. Port Clinton, OH 43452, followed by the Memorial Service conducted by Rev. Dr. Kurt Borows, Jr. at 11:00am. Interment will follow in Catawba Island Cemetery with military graveside honors. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials for Philip be given to the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire & E.M.S, Ottawa County Humane Society, or Bistro 163.
