Philip J. Brubaker

June 22, 1943 — May 19, 2024

Philip James Brubaker died at his home on May 19, 2024, with his wife by his side. He was born to his parents, James and Bonnie (Zirwes) Brubaker on June 22, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1961 and received his BA in Business from the University of Toledo.

Working a variety of jobs, Philip started as a salesman at 3M and then owned his own microfilming business for 12 years.

His first marriage was to Kathryn (Wallace) in 1964. After their divorce he fell in love with Susan King and they were together for over 30 years and recently married on May 14, 2022.

He fostered many dogs, and especially loved Golden Retrievers, all wildlife, boating fishing, and being outdoors. Philip enjoyed feeding the birds in his backyard.

He was an avid reader who had three different books going at one time. He was a huge Detroit Tiger’s fan as well as the Mud Hen’s.

In his younger years, his workouts were more strenuous with running, but walking at Wildwood Metro Park was a constant throughout his life.

Known for storytelling, sense of humor and his love of sweets, Philip will be missed by all. Caring for his wife, Susan, when she needed it the most will be a cherished memory. A very special thank you to Erin, our awesome nurse, and all the wonderful people at Ohio Living Hospice.

Preceding Philip were his parents; and sister Cheryl Cox.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan King; children, Doug Brubaker of Toledo, Kris (Dave) Garrett of Raleigh, NC, Andrea (Mike) Frost off Pittsburg, PA; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Lowell) Frusher, Morgan (Garret) Williamson, Lindsey Garrett, Gracy Frost; and one great-grandchild, Emma Frusher; and brother-in-law, Ron Cox.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to Golden Retriever Rescue, St. Jude Hospital, or Ohio Living Hospice.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 10 am at Lake Acacia, located at Toledo Memorial Park.
