Peter Marshall Schaf, 71, passed away suddenly on May 26, 2023 in his home with his loving wife by his side. He was born in McLean, Virginia on October 29, 1951 to Leva (Shearer) and Col. Frank Lewis Schaf. He graduated from Langley High School in 1969 and attended the University of Toledo, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering in 1973. Pete was employed by Owens Illinois in Toledo for 42 years, traveling to South America, Scotland and Australia during his years at OI. He married Elizabeth (Betsy) Bernard in 1976 in Perrysburg where they lived for 47 years.


Pete was an avid golfer, playing every week with a group of fellow retired OI employees. He was also a diehard fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. He will be remembered as a dedicated and caring husband, father and grandfather. Pete carved out a good life for himself full of loyalty, humility, generosity and quiet courage and strength.


Pete is survived by his wife, Betsy; his daughter, Ellen (Jon) Main of Loveland, Ohio; and grandchildren, JP and Camden. The love that their “Gramps” had for them will live on forever in their hearts. He is also survived by his brothers, Nicholas (Pat) and Robert; his brothers-in-law Tom (Debbe) Becker, Brad Bernard and Peter Bernard; and his mother-in-law, Helen as well as many nieces and nephews. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Leva; his father-in-law, Edwin (“Pete”); and his sister-in-law, Debra (Debbie) Bernard.
