Peter J. Savona of Maumee, OH passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 13, 1928 in Brownsville, PA to the late John and Lucy (Marchion) Savona. Pete graduated from Brownsville High School (PA) in 1946 and moved to Detroit, Michigan to attend the University of Detroit. He was a Korean War Army Veteran and served from December 1950 to December 1952. Pete worked for Chrysler Automotive in various office positions at the Highland Park plant, and later at the Toledo Machining Plant in Perrysburg, OH; from January 24, 1949 to October 31, 1989. He was a member of the UAW Local #1435 in Perrysburg; and an active parishioner at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns since October 1966. He was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus since September, 1950, most recently as part of Council #14155. Pete was an avid member of many communities, and could often be found selling raffle tickets after mass, chatting with everyone, or in his 46 year old “reserved” seat at SJJ wrestling, basketball and Football events. Pete married the love of his life, Anna, on June 30th, 1956 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Midland, MD. In addition to their three children, they opened their home to over 25 foster children. Pete was the patriarch of the Savonas, and the family always came together around him. Before, and after his retirement, Pete attended many activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He greatly enjoyed family gatherings and was never without his camera! Pete had a very competitive spirit, and loved to play games; especially Wizard, dominoes, and his favorite, 4 handed Pinochle (it was always best to be his partner!). His family will fondly remember his frequent trips to the store (especially Anderson’s)- making sure to have everyone’s favorite treats, his exceedingly punctual birthday cards, and his phone calls- just to check in; some of the many ways he showed how much he cared for his loved ones. Surviving are his daughter Patty (Charlie) Speiker, Maumee, OH, and sons Mike (Patti) Savona, Lakeside, OH, and Tim (Pam) Savona North Ridgeville, OH. His grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Nikki (Nick) Frisch, and children Dylan Savona, Elli and Evi Frisch, Brent (Emily) Jennings, children: Mikey and Cooper Jennings, Tim (Kara) Savona, children: Maxton and Brynn Savona, Jenny (Joe) Zeunick, children: Macey, Kenzie, and Ava Zeunick, Kari (Cole) Patrick, children: Connor and Chloe, Chelsea (Mike) Hittle, Amanda (Anthony) Perk, Nathan (Kelleen) Savona and Eva Savona, Ashlea Savona, Michaela Savona, and AJ Savona, Foster daughter Brenda (Don) Rennecker, and children Annale, Jonathon, and Elissa.
