Peter P. Rywalski age 89 of Toledo, OH passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the University of Toledo Medical Center. Pete was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 1, 1925 to Leo and Anna (Guga) Rywalski. He graduated from Macomber Vocational High School in 1943. He was employed at Libbey Owens Ford Glass Co. for 39 years, (17 years as a foreman), retired May, 1982. Pete was a part of the greatest generation and was drafted into the U. S. Army on April 28, 1944. Began basic training at Camp Fannin, Texas. He was later shipped out to France, as an infantry replacement and joined the 100th Inf. Division, Co. A, 397th Regiment, on Nov. 23, 1944, at LaPuid, France. Pete moved on to Bitche, Rimling, Heilbronn. Soon after Heilbronn, his legs were infected and was sent back to an Army hospital outside of Paris. The war ended. He returned to his unit near Stuttgart.  Pete was transferred to occupational duties with the 3rd Inf. Div., HQ Co., 7th Inf. Regiment, Military Police, in Hersfeld, Germany. Returned to USA. Discharged July 1946, at the rank of Corporal T/5. Pete enjoyed genealogy research and contacted his classmates at Good Shepherd School dating back to his class of 1939. He was a member of the Maumee American Legion and Knights of Columbus where he was a 3rd degree member. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Virginia R.; children, Mariellen (James) Miller, Nancy (Arthur) Boehm, Ann (Matthew) Haugh, Barb Rywalski; daughter in-law, Teresa Rywalski; step-children, Anne (Blake) Leitnick-Watkiss, Sue (Gary) Gray, Laura (Michael) Clarahan, Barbara (Bill) Gibbons and David Leitnick; grandchildren, Joshua, Kimberly, Ella, Sara and Rachel; step-grandchildren, Kristen, John, Emily, Mary, William III and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Caroline (Hallett); sons, Anthony and Paul and brothers, Joseph, Edward and Stanley. Family and friends will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee OH on Friday from 3:00 PM until the time of Services at 6 PM. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
