Peter James Mchugh

Peter James McHugh, age 53, of Sylvania, died August 1, 2017 at Ebeid Hospice. Peter was born August 11, 1963 in Toledo to James and Margaret (OLeary) McHugh and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1981. He earned his undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford and his law degree from the University of Toledo. Pete worked as Assistant Lucas County Prosecutor before entering private practice in criminal and defense law. He was a partner with Jasin, Sallah & McHugh in Toledo. Pete was proud to be an attorney as he believed deeply in the justice system and felt that everyone deserved representation. He enjoyed being involved in the Toledo political scene, helping others with campaigns, and serving as president of the Toledo Police Athletic League. A devout Catholic who loved the Mass, Pete was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sylvania. His fall and spring Miami reunion trips were treasured times with friends for Pete. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and the Detroit Tigers. Outgoing, kind, and social by nature, he was a friend to all who crossed his path and was a terrific husband and proud father. Pete attended his kids sport, theater, and dance events throughout the years, and was always available for spontaneous, lively debates at home. He lived life to the fullest, and was often heard commenting, I am the most blessed guy. Surviving are his mother, Margaret; wife, Mary (Sell) McHugh; children, Hilary and Claire Parlette, Jimmy and Jane McHugh; siblings, Joe McHugh and Ellen Angeles (Kevin); sister-in-law, Barb Mowry; and brother-in-law, Rob Sell. Peters father preceded him in death. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Peters funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 7, 2017 at St. Josephs Church, 5373 Main St., Sylvania. Interment will be private. Memorials are suggested to The Cullen Center, The Toledo Police Athletic League, and St. Francis de Sales High School.
