Peter H. Ermie

April 12, 1945 — May 4, 2013

Peter H. Ermie Sr., 68, of Perrysburg peacefully went to be with the lord, on Saturday at Hospice in Perrysburg, surrounded by family and friends. He was born April 12, 1945 to Anthony and Mary (Marchetti) Ermie in Johnstown, New York. He married Maria Battista on November 17, 1979. Growing up in Johnstown and Caroga Lake New York he often told stories of his time on the lake, at Sherman’s, slinging pizzas at Willie’s and betting horses at the Saratoga race track. In recent years he was thrilled to reconnect with old friends and classmates. Mr. Ermie served as the vice president of marketing and sales for Jobst and Bristol-Myers Squibb until his retirement in 1986, he always spoke fondly of his Jobst family. He was an avid boater and loved spending time on his “foolish pleasure”, he was never more comfortable than in his jeans at the helm. A member of the Indian Hill Boat Club in Maumee, he came to know so many great people who would be fixtures in his life. A 36 year resident of Perrysburg, surrounded by a wonderful group of neighbors, he was very active in the community, working to support multiple school levies, political candidates and doing his best to keep his blood pressure down during Maria’s time on city council. He spent his mornings for the past 27 years with the breakfast club a wonderful group of friends who gave him a reason to get up in the morning when his health made it difficult. He always said they were only allowed to discuss the world’s problems but never solve them so they always had something to talk about tomorrow. He battled a rare disease his entire life and through all the ups, downs and pain never lost his sense of humor. He lit up every room and had a joke or story for every occasion, appropriate or more often not he always had people laughing. Mr. Ermie is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Maria who stood steadfastly by his side through it all; his sons Peter (Joy) Ermie Jr. of Perrysburg, Eric (Amy) Ermie of Worthington and Michael Ermie of Perrysburg; brother Anthony (Kathy) Ermie of Visalia, California; grandchildren Grace , Luke and Seth Ermie of Perrysburg who gave him the strength to fight as long as he did; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and in-laws. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alkaptonuria society (http://www.akusociety.org) to support research and treatment for the disease he fought so hard against, to the University of Toledo kidney transplant program or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio who cared for him so well and kept him comfortable until the end. Visitation will be held Friday, May 10th from 4-9PM, followed by funeral services 10AM on Saturday May 11th both at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home in Perrysburg. Please dress casually, if there was anything he disliked more than liberalism it was wearing a tie.
