Pauline Mary Butz

Pauline Butz passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio, from the complications of advanced age. She was 100 years old, and maintained her sense of humor to the end. Born in Rossford, Ohio, she was the oldest of the six children of Stefan and Josefine Holkovic. She was married to Arthur Butz for 63 years, and after marriage in California, lived in the Maumee area for the balance of her life. She is survived by sons Brian Butz and wife Betty (New Orleans), Todd Butz and wife Karen (Clinton, Tennessee), and Kevin Butz (Denver); also grandchildren David Butz, Arthur Butz, Lauren Miles, and Ryan Butz; and great-grandchildren Sophie Butz, Isaac Miles, and Wyatt Butz. She was preceded in death by her husband; and sister Irene Hatas and brother Edward Holt. She is survived by brother Martin “Dick” Holkovic, sisters Helen Fry and Janet “Kathy” Dianiska, special friends David and Dru Hazard, and a host of nephews and nieces and their families. Pauline was an avid gardener and long-time member of the Riverview Garden Club. She also enjoyed travel, and beginning at an early age visited most of the United States, and - later – Europe, North Africa, east Asia, and the Antipodes. She had natural talent in handiwork – sewing, drawing, cooking. In particular, she became an accomplished artist, specializing in portraits and wildlife painting, and was well-known at art shows and fairs around northwest Ohio. During World War II, with her husband overseas, she and a friend owned and operated the restaurant “Lucky Spoon” in Rossford. Funeral arrangements will be private and have been entrusted with the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, Maumee, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
