Paul O. Sawmiller, 79, of Oregon, died Monday morning, January 14, 2019, at Mercy-St. Charles Hospital, due to complications from mesothelioma. Paul was born April 27, 1939, in Mendon, Ohio, to Osmond F. and Nora (Roberts) Sawmiller. On June 13, 1959, in Oregon, Ohio, he married Ruth Coon and she preceded him in death August 19, 2009. Paul was an Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Paul retired in 2007 from Ford Motors, Maumee Stamping. He had also worked at Kelsey Hayes and Permaglass. He always liked his cars and recently took delivery of a new Lincoln. Paul also had a home in On Top of the World, Ocala, Florida, where he loved to ride his bicycle from his home there to the Gulf of Mexico, about 60 miles. He enjoyed college football and playing cards at the Oregon Senior Center or anywhere there were cards and players. Paul was a humble, hardworking family man, who will be deeply missed. Paul is survived by his sons, Curt (Kim) Sawmiller of Ft. Wayne, IN, Kevin (Steffanie) Sawmiller of Curtice and daughter, Karen Sawmiller of Oregon; grandchildren, Kelly, Kristi, Sam and Erika; his sisters, Wilma Young of Celina, OH and Ethel Mominee of Toledo. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Quatoria, Martha, Pearl, Vivian, Nancy, Hortense, Archie, Jr. and Orville, as well as twins that died at birth. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 18, 2019, at Christ United Methodist Church in Oregon, with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Jerusalem Township, Curtice. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials for Paul to go to Christ United Methodist Church, 5757 Starr Ave., Oregon, OH 43616; or the Oregon Senior Center, 4350 Navarre Ave., Oregon, OH 43616.
