Paul A. Rioux, age 78, of Toledo, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Ebeid Hospice Residence. He was born in Plainfield CT, on February 4, 1934 to Joseph and Alpheda Rioux. He attended Plainfield High School and left early to enlist in the United States Navy where he served from 1951 1955 as a Boiler Maker on a destroyer. Upon moving to Toledo, Paul worked as a metal spinner and tool and die maker at Toledo Metal Spinning, plant manager at Superior Spinning and Stamping, supervisor at Sullivan Steel, retiring from SportRack Automotive as a supervisor of the prototype shop in 1999. He started and operated Allen Thomas Manufacturing, and was a founding investor in Toledo Internet Access. In retirement, he taught as a part-time instructor in the metal machining laboratory in the Department of Engineering Technology at the University of Toledo. While raising his family, Paul was actively involved with his children in St. Clement church, Trilby Baseball Association as a little league coach, CYO basketball coach, and Webelo Leader for Cub Scout Pack 195. As an adult leader for Boy Scout Troop 195 and a merit badge counselor, he helped many young men including both sons, achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. A longtime member of the St. Lawrence Council of the Knights of Columbus, Paul was a fourth degree Knight, and past Grand Knight. An avid bowler, he was actively involved with the Toledo Bowling Association for many years. With a lifelong love of the water, Paul loved boating and the Great Lakes, teaching his children fishing, basic seamanship and respect for the water. As a member of Bay View Yacht Club since 1973, he worked on many committees and served on the board of trustees. In retirement, he could be found either on his boat or solving the problems of the world with his many buddies on Skid Row. Paul is survived by his sons, Allen Kim and Thomas Marivie, grandchildren, Ashley, Allison, Vanessa, Colin, Thomas II, Nicholas, and William. Surviving brothers and sisters are, Jeanette Frank Anderson, Lorraine Martin, Mae Rioux, Raymond Darlene Rioux, Eleanor Arden Johnston, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn Marie, and former wife, Patricia Rioux Mueller and brothers and sisters, Arthur, Lucien, Robert, Donald, Richard, and Lucy. Friends are invited to visit from 2 PM Thursday, until the time of the funeral service at 6 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to ProMedica Hospice Ebeid Hospiceor the American Cancer Society.
