Paul Jacob Klawitter (PAULIE) passed away peacefully on JUNE 5, 2018 at Wolf Creek Nursing Home in Holland, Ohio. He was 89 years old and is survived by his wife, Margie. Paul was born in the house that he grew up in on Plumer Street in Toledo, Ohio, on May 12, 1929. He was the son of Emma (HUDE) and Albert Paul Klawitter. He was the oldest child that looked after his five sisters: Charlotte Siebenaller (Bob/deceased), Rita Andrews (Jim), Ruthie Pendrey (Bob/deceased), Jean Lorenzen (Steven), and Jane Knak (Richard/deceased). Paul was in the graduating class of 1947 from Waite High School. He met his first wife, Ruthann Lockwood and was married to her until her death in 1960. He married his current wife of 56 years, Margie Dunlap in 1962. They raised seven children together in Holland, Ohio- Paul G. Klawitter (Clarinda), Linda Klawitter (David Bonomo), Eve Abu-Obaid (Allam), David Klawitter (Dawn), Terri Lederman, John Klawitter, Scott Klawitter. Paul was employed at Libbey Owens Ford (LOF) for over 35 years and retired in 1989. He made many lifelong friends while working at LOF. Paulie loved his SPORTS! His favorite teams are the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. He loved to watch college basketball, especially the rivals Ohio State VS Michigan! His favorite hockey team was the Detroit Redwings, but always put Sidney Crosby as the “best hockey player there ever was”. Paul enjoyed coaching his sons, John and Scott on the Springfield High School hockey team. He was the Springfield High School’s assistant hockey coach from the years 1978 to 1982. Paul served as the President of the Springfield Hockey Boosters to raise money for kids that couldn’t afford hockey equipment. Paul was an avid Bowler and took pride in his game. He bowled a good game and was known as the “Paulinator”. For many years, he had fun with his bowling team and mixed couples team with Margie. He even made it out to Las Vegas for a few tournaments. One year, he bowled with his son Scott on his team “Mindset” and they won the Championship! He actively bowled until he was 83. Paul was a loving father and family meant everything to him. He was a great cook and loved to have Sunday and holiday dinners with his family. His antiquing trips with his oldest son Paul, sometimes ended with dinners at Loma Linda’s. He liked collecting rare coins, antique pocket knives and he has an extensive library of books that he loved to read. He enjoyed fishing trips with John and camping trips with his daughter, Terri in Ohio and Michigan. When his daughter Linda came to Toledo for a visit, he would take her to the best pizza joint in town. He loved visiting his son David and his family in Salinas, CA. and went to a San Jose Shark’s game. When he visited his daughter Eve and her family, they would go to Mt. Washington to overlook the City of Pittsburgh. A few of the highlights of his retirement was taking cruises with his wife Margie and friends. They hosted many family get togethers and dinners. With his caring and loving ways, Paulie won the hearts of many. He had a very humorous and kind side to him that made lifelong friends. Paul and Marge loved raising their kids as well as their beloved pets, currently, Maggie May. They enjoyed their 12 Grandchildren: Gideon, Megan, Michelle, Leanne, Thea, Kelley, Hanna, Alia, Sami, John, Ashley, Brooke and their 9 Great Grandchildren: Marissa, Jared, Gus, Lilah, Scott, Lyndsey, Amber, Simon, and Kendall. Paul also was loved by many Nieces and Nephews. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Neville Shank Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, Ohio 43528 (419-865-8879) with Pastor Bill McGinnis, officiating. Following his services, visitation will continue until 7 PM.
