Patrick T. Oconnor

Patrick T. OConnor, age 61 of Luna Pier, Michigan passed away December 27, 2016 in his home. He was born January 24, 1955 in Muskegon, MI to Arthur John and Margaret Ann (Belak) OConnor. Growing up he lived in Lansing and Kalamazoo Michigan. While in Kalamazoo he worked for Boogie Records and in 1973 after much research, he opened the original Boogie Records on Central Avenue in Toledo with himself, Don Rose and Jim Rodbard. Later they were joined by Steve Essick and Debbie Marinik. Boogie Records closed in 2004 which is when Pat opened Culture Clash Records on Secor Road in Toledo. Pat was also co-owner with Mark Musgrave of Red Sky Surf and Snow. A second degree black belt in Tai Kwon Do, he was a member of the Alliance of Independent Media Stores (AIMS) and was very instrumental in the creation of Record Store Day, a national day celebrated by and for independent record stores. A true friend to many he mentored many people in music as well as life itself. Pat was preceded in death by his parents; his four legged companions, dogs Krypto the original boogie dog and Raoul DeSade; and his cat Clark Gable. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Marcia; brothers John Arthur (Susan) OConnor and Michael James (Kari) OConnor; sister Margaret Mary OConnor; brother-in-law Mark W. Childers; sister-in-law Brenda (David) Kuntz; nieces Kelly, Stacey, Katie, Megan, Ziyin, Danyelle and Josie; nephew Brian; 4 great-nephews; 3 great-nieces; and his cats Seamus Sean Patrick Murphy OConnor and Sinead OConnor. Friends will be received on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) from 2-8 PM where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 AM. Interment will be private. The family suggests memorials to the Patrick OConnor Memorial Fund c/o any 5/3 Bank.
