Patricia Marie Voorhees

Patricia M. Voorhees, age 94, passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 at Heartland of Waterville Care Center. She was born February 17, 1922 in Toledo to Joseph Fitzgerald, MD and Lillian Kenyon Fitzgerald. Patricia grew up in East Toledo on Oak Street and went to Good Shepherd Grade School. After graduating from the Ursline High School in downtown Toledo, Patricia attended Mary Manse College and finished her Bachelors in Education Degree at the University of Toledo. She was a substitute teacher for 45 years, teaching every day until she was 85 years old. Patricia married Leonard Samuel Voorhees in 1942 and they moved to West Toledo in 1955 where they raised their four children. She adored her children and grandchildren and loved celebrating birthdays, graduations, and anniversaries together. Patricia regularly attended her grandchildrens sporting events and enjoyed cheering them on. She will be remembered for her sweet disposition and positive outlook. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Samuel Voorhees; grandsons, Terry and Mark; son, Michael; and brother, Joe. She is survived by her son, Joe (Nancy) Voorhees; daughters, Kathy (Jeff) Meyer and Susan (Joe) Brzezowiez; daughter in law, Pat Voorhees; grandchildren, Michelle (Ben), Julie (Jim), Eric (Zoe), Sara Ellyn, James, Krista (Nathan), Timothy (fiancé, Suzanne), and Andrea (fiancé, Anthony); and great-grandchildren, Aidan, Emma, Katie, Gabe, Pearl, Clark, Jackson, Andrew, and Lucas. Visitation will be Monday, August 1, 2016 from 2-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) with a scripture service at 7:00pm. Funeral services will begin Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the funeral home with prayers at 9:15am followed by a Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament, 2240 Castlewood Drive, Toledo, Ohio 43613 at 10:00 AM.
