Patricia Winters Poll passed away on July 9, 2021, in Toledo Ohio, soon after her 97th birthday. A remarkable and strong woman, she lived independently until just 6 weeks ago. Patty was born on June 4, 1924, in Toledo, to Ralph and Sigrid (Widell) Winters and graduated from Devilbiss High School. It was in Old Orchard that she met Alonzo Poll, who lived right across the street from her. They dated, fell in love, and married on December 18, 1943, just before Lon deployed overseas. Together for just over 70 years, they had 4 children, grew a family business, and played countless hands of gin rummy. Laughter was a constant presence in the family home. Patty chose raising kids as her full-time career, but she was so much more than just a mom. A jack of all trades, she was a carpenter, a seamstress, an organist, an artist, a golfer, a bowler-- she really could do it all. She obtained her pilot license in her 40’s which forced Lon to sit shot gun for once and keep his mouth shut as she piloted the plane. She would hate it if her numerous charitable and volunteer work was mentioned, so suffice it to say that she gave of herself in so many ways. She will be missed even more on Christmas morning this year, as it was always a family tradition to go to Bop and Gram's for gift exchanges, lottery tickets and Gram's famous cinnamon rolls. These rolls were a cherished and delicious gift to grandkids for birthdays, and special packages for dear friends on holidays. She was preceded in death by Alonzo Poll in 2014, and a sister, Sigrid Dion. Mom's legacy includes her children, Richard (Jan) Poll, Libby (Jeff) Ziegler, Kathy (Craig) Looney and Susie (Tom Holt) Poll; grandchildren, Scott, Julie, Joey, Phil, Jane, Kristen, Meghan, Shannon, D.J., Danny, Billy, and Emily; great grandchildren, Brendan, Tyler, Ellie, Leland, Alice, Caroline, Ethan, Carson, Talia, Web, Nellie, Murphy, Sloan, and Blakley; and brother, Ralph Winters. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Collingwood Presbyterian Church, 2108 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo, OH 43620. Facial coverings and social distancing will be required inside the building. Interment will be private at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name can be made to Collingwood Church, First Tee of Lake Erie, or Ashanti Hospice.
