It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Joan Leahy on Wednesday, July 4th at the UTMC. The only surviving child born to Edward and Margaret Maloney on January 24, 1932 in Denver, Co., she grew up in Toledo and attended Immaculate Conception school. In spite of losing her parents and grandparents at a young age, Pat persevered and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1949. She later went on to complete an Associate’s Degree in bookkeeping from Davis Business College. She married John Leahy February 27th, 1954. She worked in various accounting positions throughout the years, including the Department of Defense, Kroger, Macy’s and Express Cartage/W.W. Express. Pat was unwavering in her Catholic ffaith. She was an active parishioner and founding member at St. Patrick ’s of Heatherdowns and current member of St. Rose Perrysburg. She enjoyed Catholic books and television and participated in bible study. Health battles and other challenges throughout her life only deepened her resolve to live a good, selfless and humble life, and strengthened her faith and love of our Lord. Always giving of her talent and treasure, she looked for ways to give back to her community when needed, in big ways or small. The less fortunate always held a special place in her heart. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, St. Louis Soup Kitchen, and Immaculate Conception school. Gifts were often given anonymously to friends, just to bring cheer. Pat understood her calling was to serve others. Friends, many of them lifelong, were a big part of her life. Parties, playing cards, and travel always involved her many friends. An avid golfer and bowler, she also faithfully rode a stationary bike in her later years. Pat’s life was full of games, laughter, pranks and fun. She laughed at herself with ease and grace. Gathering with extended family for Indy Time Trials, Christmas dinners, Thanksgivings in Gulf Shores, St. Patrick’s Day at the Bridge Café, all were times she treasured. Her house on the river was a special place to her. She loved the view year-round and kept fit feeding the birds, weeding, and making lasting memories with grandchildren on the hill. Visiting with children and grandchildren was a source of great pride and joy. She looked forward to conversations with them and hearing updates about their lives. She is survived by her husband, John; sister-in-law, Maureen Meyer (Jack); brother-in-law, Tom Leahy; children, Susan Roscoe (Jeff), Robert Leahy (Laurie), Sharon Smith (Mathis), and John Leahy (Sally); grandchildren, Jason Roscoe, Toby Roscoe, Molly Garcia (Chris), Katherine Valentin (Damien), Erin Howell (Ben), Shannon Leahy, Brigid Leahy, Brendan Leahy, Kyle Smith, Hannah Smith, Sarah Leahy, Patrick Leahy, Sean Smith; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Nicholas, Barrett, Emma, Henry, Carolina, and Amelia; and many loving nieces and nephews.
