Patricia A. Goulding died April 7, 2017, following a brief hospitalization. She was born July 4, 1937, and was placed for adoption with Catholic Charities. At age 5, she was adopted by her mother and father, Valentine C. and Gladys I. (Mackey) Fischer, who were both teachers. She graduated from St. Joseph (Maumee) Catholic Grade School and Central Catholic High School (Class of 55) where she starred in several musicals. She attended the University of Detroit thereafter. She worked for Maumee Valley Hospital and Chevrolet (now Power Train) as a secretary, then married Robert C. Goulding on June 3, 1961. The couple moved to Chicago where Bob attended and graduated from optometry school while she worked for Investment Guide Advertising as a secretary. After returning to Toledo, she helped Bob start his optometry practice in Rossford, Ohio. Later, she worked for the Ohio Civil Rights Commission and the Sight Center. Most of her working life, though, was spent as Bobs office manager. She was an active member of Toastmistress International for several years in the 60s and 70s, and was the only Toledoan to compete in a speech contest at the international level. In 1967, Pat and Bob adopted their son, Michael, and in 1969 adopted their second son, Mark. She served as a Cub Scout den mother and Sunday School teacher, and taught CCD classes while the boys attended St. Pius X in West Toledo. After the boys grew up, Pat and Bob became very involved with local Lions Clubs, where Pat served as President of the Maumee Lions Club, District Governor of District A, and most recently as President of the Northwest Ohio Lions Eye Care Foundation. She received the Melvin Jones Award, the highest achievement in Lions Club, in recognition for her outstanding service. She enjoyed travelling with Bob to various historic sites, cooking, and doting over her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Robert, sons Michael (Amy) and Mark, and grandchildren Steven, Mathew, Abby, Isabelle, Madeline, Peter, and David. Friends will be received at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) on Monday April 10 from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will begin Tuesday, April 11 at 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Northwest Ohio Lions Eye Care Foundation or St. Francis de Sales School, 2323 W. Bancroft, Toledo 43607.
