Pamela Marie (Schindler) Pauwels, 82, died early April 4, 2022, after a lengthy illness.
That bald statement of fact doesn’t begin to cover the enormous impact she had on her family and friends. Pam was always in a good mood (except when she wasn’t), always pleasant with everyone she came in contact with (except telemarketers), and was a woman of tremendous faith. Even in her final days, she looked out for others, cajoling her remaining sister, Harriet Zaleski, to take care of herself; sending birthday and get-well cards; reading her daily devotionals; and gently (or not-so) nudging us kids to look out for each other now that she and Dad aren’t here to do that.
In addition to caring for her family, Pam worked in retail for many years, following Lasalle’s Department Store from downtown Toledo to the Woodville Mall when it opened. She was active in her church, and kept busy with reading, cooking shows, and making Christmas ornaments to carry on her mother Maryellen’s tradition. Her grandchildren will miss their Easter socks, and we’ll all think of her particularly on our own birthdays when her annual singing phone call doesn’t wake us bright and early.
Remembering her always are children, George Jr. (Cyndi), Robert (Diana), Rebecca (Dana) Dickman, and Peggie Bittner; grandchildren, Megan (Seth), Stephen, Christopher (Jamie), Eric, David (Megan), Scott, Thomas “T.J.” (Brooke), Joshua (Jessica), and Sarah (Cody); eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
Pam was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, George, Sr.; and sisters, Janis Schindler-Sheldrick and Gretchen Ross.
