Orris V. Tabner, 83, of Toledo, Ohio died on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 8, 1932 in Toledo to John and Ethel (Mearns) Taberner. Orris was a 1950 graduate of Libbey High School and he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo in 1968. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Orris later worked as a Sports Newscaster for WTOL, Channel 11 for over 37 years before giving his last broadcast on February 9, 1996. In his earlier years Orris, enjoyed taking his family on vacations to Bear Lake, which his children always looked forward to. After retirement, he took pleasure in playing golf and going to lunch with his friends. Orris was an avid OSU Buckeye fan and he loved to tell a good joke. He will be greatly missed. Orris is survived by his loving children, Scott A. (Starr) Tabner, Amy J. Tabner, Amy L. (John) Speweik and Thomas Kempf; grandchildren, Josh, Sara, Branden, Kane, Alex, Kyle, Mitchell, Nathan, Claire, Spencer and Steven; several great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy J. Tabner and second wife, Andrea Tabner; siblings, Doug Tabner, Joe and Jack Taberner and Doreen Meadows. Friends will be received on Friday, December 4, 2015 from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Neville Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, Ohio 43528 (419-865-8879) where visitation will continue on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 10:00 A.M to 11:00 A.M. Funeral services will be held following the visitation on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be private.
