Opal A. McGrath-Tipton-Simon passed peacefully at home on January 29, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 30, 1920 to the late John Lee McGrath and Myrtle Leona (Multz) McGrath in Toledo, Ohio. Opal was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who was devoted to her family. She loved to spend time with everyone and share her stories and wisdom. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes Football and Detroit Tigers fan. Opal was also a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post 9963 in Walbridge, Ohio. She is survived by her children, Danny Tipton (Toledo), Cathy (James) Etchie (Waseon), Larry Tipton (Toledo), Carla Tipton (Northwood); sister, Sally Saba (Latana, Florida); brother, William (Barbara) VanHall (Danbury, Connecticut); over 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sally Jean Tipton; sons, Harold Lee Tipton, Gary Robert Tipton, Lynn Elden Tipton; sister, Carrie (Tuddy) McGrath Schwager; brother, William (Bud) McGrath; great grandson, Carl Wittenmyer IV; first husband, Harold Elden Tipton; and second husband, Andy (Eddie) Simon. Visitation will be held at Hoeflinger-Shank Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Avenue, Oregon, OH on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 2 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will take place at the funeral home on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family would like to send a special thank you to Promedica Hospice, Wanda, Cindy, and Chaplain Ron. Also, the staff and nurses at Dr. Mark Young’s office. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to cover the remaining cost of funeral expenses. Any money left over will be donated to Promedica Hospice.
