Opal Lavonne Cook

Opal LaVonne (Pence) Cook, 94, of Perrysburg, Ohio, returned to her Lord November 13, 2017 in Perrysburg, Ohio. Opal was born January 8, 1923 in Plymouth County, Iowa to Walter Olie and Wanda (Perry) Pence. She graduated from High School in Long Beach, California. Opal lived the majority of her adult life in Racine, Wisconsin. Opal was married three separate times: to Leonard Cummings; to Ray Hammes; and to Richard Cook, all of whom preceded her in death. Opal enjoyed ballroom dancing and made sure to go at least five times a week (twice on Sundays!), and enjoyed going on cruises. Opal is survived by her son Donald Lee (Glenda) Cummings and their children Donna (Eric) Fisher and their children Matthew and Jessica; Carmen (Mike Martucci) Cummings, and Donald (Maria) Cummings and their daughter Chelsea. She is also survived by her son Leonard Francis Cummings, Jr. and his children Gretchen and Lisa. Opal was preceded in death by her son Michael Bruce Cummings in 2000 but is survived by his children Angie, Michael Jr., and Brian. She was preceded in death by her son Richard Walter Hammes who was murdered in 2004. Additional survivors also include her sisters Constance (Harry) Kouris and Maribel Smith and her brother Gary (Fran) Pence. Opal was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Phyllis. Also surviving is her cousin Sally Kimball, her step grandchildren Richard and Robbie Myhre. Per the Opal’s wishes, the services will be private.
