Olga Michaels

MICHAELS Olga Olga Michaels, age 90, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at her home in Northwest Ohio after a long illness. She was born and raised in the Ukrainian community along Carmel Road in Millville, NJ. After working briefly in a law firm in nearby Bridgeton, she married John J. Michaels in June of 1938. Together they raised three children in Bridgeton, Alton, IL and Toledo, OH. Olga was a bowler and golfer but her passions were bridge and the womens movement. She belonged to bridge groups all her life and was a charter subscriber to MS Magazine. She imbued her daughters with the values and goals she thought important for women: strength, independence and economic power. In 1997 Olga lost her son, John Jr., 54, to cancer. Four years later, her husband, a decades long employee of Owens Illinois, died of congestive heart failure at age 86. Olga is survived by her brother, Paul in Bridgeton and her daughters, Marguerite, currently in Toledo, and Lauren in New York City. Her family wishes to extend special thanks to Diana Crow, friend and caregiver, and to the excellent staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Clement Church on Tremainsville Rd. on Saturday, September 15th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 East River Road, Perrysburg, OH 43551.
