Olga Avalos

Oct 8, 1951 — Jul 9, 2026

Olga (Rivera) Avalos, born on October 8, 1951, in Moorhead, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on July 9, 2026, surrounded by her family and in the loving care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Olga was born to Celestino and Estella Rivera. Though her life began in Minnesota, she was raised in Crystal City, Texas, where she learned the resilience and work ethic that would define her life. As a teenager, she worked as a migrant farmworker, following the harvest from the sugar beet fields to potatoes, cucumbers, and tomatoes. The work was demanding and often done under the hot summer sun, but Olga met it with determination and grace. Those early years gave her a lasting appreciation for hard work, sacrifice, and family.

That same strength carried her into adulthood. On December 22, 1971, Olga married the love of her life, Alexander "Alex" Avalos Sr . Their marriage was blessed in the Catholic Church on January 15, 1972, at St. Peter and Paul's Church in Toledo, Ohio. Together they built a loving home and shared 54 years of marriage rooted in love, faith, and commitment. Her Catholic faith remained an important source of comfort and guidance throughout her life.

Olga devoted herself to her family as a stay-at-home mother until her youngest child entered kindergarten. When she returned to work, she did so with the same dedication she brought to every part of her life. She first cleaned rooms at the LK Motel before becoming a cafeteria worker with Rossford Exempted Village Schools. She especially treasured the years she was able to watch over her granddaughters, Desiree and Dominique, while they attended Rossford schools.

While Olga worked hard throughout her life, her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, whether they were playing Lotería (Spanish Bingo), learning how to cook, or simply enjoying each other's company. She also cherished outings with her daughters to Dollar General and Goodwill. These simple moments became some of her most treasured memories. To her family, she was more than a grandmother-she was a constant source of love, support, and encouragement.

Olga is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Alexander Avalos Sr; her children, David (Megan) Avalos, adopted son Matthew (Sherri) Walker, Alexander (Melissa) Avalos Jr., Cynthia (Carey) Fouty, Richard (Courtney) Avalos, and Diana (Nate) Kaminski; her beloved sister, Magdalena (Sylvester) Rivera; 16 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the pride and joy of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Celestino and Estella; her brothers, Guadalupe and Rudolfo; and her sisters, Celestina and Esmeralda.

Olga's life was a testament to hard work, quiet strength, and unconditional love. Her Catholic faith sustained her, and her determination carried her through every challenge. She taught her family that the greatest gifts in life are not material things, but faith, perseverance, and time spent together. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Though she is no longer with us, the love she gave so freely and the legacy she leaves behind will remain with her family for generations to come. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. "We take comfort in knowing she has been welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord and reunited with those who went before her. May she rest in eternal peace."
