Norma Jean Gonder

February 23, 1950 — August 3, 2017

On August 3, 2017 our beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister and friend, Norma Jean (Alexander) Gonder, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born February 23, 1950 in Toledo, Ohio. She raised four wonderful children with her loving husband of 47 years, Charles Doug Gonder. Norma spent her life always involved with her children, supporting them in their cheerleading and sports. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren on shopping trips, going out for steak dinners or simply watching her grandchildren play. Norma was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and rarely missed a game on TV. She also enjoyed watching her stories, scary movies, and reading People magazine. Norma was never without her Chapstick and bottled water. Norma was happiest when her family was all together, some of her favorite times were baking cookies with her grandchildren, the annual family reunion in the summer and picking apples and eating donuts at the orchard in the fall. She was a longtime, active member of Liberty Baptist Church in Toledo. Norma fought a decade-long battle with cancer but always stayed involved with her childrens lives as she was a mom above all else. Norma is survived by her husband, Doug Gonder; children, Lisa (Tony) Babich, Michelle (Heath) Dennis, Karla (Adam) Zeiger, Steve (Kim) Gonder; grandchildren, Emily, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Elijah, Asher, Carys, Mackenzie, Morgan and Max; and six brothers and sisters. Visitation will be Monday from 3-8 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Road). Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August, 8, 2017 at Liberty Baptist Church, 5501 Jackman Rd., Toledo, with interment to follow at Toledo Memorial Park. The family wishes to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Norma at U of M Cancer Center, St. Annes and St. Vincents Hospital, The Toledo Clinic and Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Memorial gifts may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation at https://tribute.themmrf.org/NormaGonder.
