Nola Nadine Stetter Whittington passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 13, 2010 while visiting family in Burlington, Kansas. She was born to Charles and Lydia Stetter on August 20, 1925. Nola was married to Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Major Hulon Rocky Whittington who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Roxanne Jim Jones, Teri Jack Jones, Lisa Gary Humberger, Scott Cyndy Whittington, and Michele Bob Myers. Also surviving Nola are 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; half sister Christine Huett; half brothers Eugene, Jim, Carl and Chuck Stetter. Nola had a whirlwind of a life. An Army wife for 24 years, they raised their children on various United States posts as well as Germany. Upon Rockys retirement Nola held many management positions, first at Toledo Hospital and then at hotels in the area. In addition to being the family matriarch, Nola was active in many organizations including American Legion Auxiliary, Basset Hound Club of America, Maumee Valley Basset Hound Club, Sunnyside Child Conservation League, volunteered for hospice, and attended the Thursday Bible Study. Most recently she was serving as Regional President of Gold Star Wives. She was a member of Community of Christ Lutheran Church in Whitehouse. She had a love of cooking and entertaining. She traveled extensively. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family will be receiving friends at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St. in Maumee on Monday, May 17 starting at 2 P.M. with services beginning at 6:30 P.M.
