Nikki Drossel

February 20, 1942 — December 17, 2013

Nicole Nikki Drossel, 71, of Woodville, Ohio, died peacefully at Elmwood at the Springs in Green Springs, Ohio, on December 17, 2013. Nikki was born in Toledo, Ohio, on February 20, 1942, to Elaine Carson and Lloyd E. Drossel, MD. Both preceded her in death. Nikki was a 1960 graduate of Woodville High School. She attended many colleges in her life, including Stevens College, Ohio Wesleyan, Ohio Northern and Bowling Green State University. She completed her studies with a Master of Science degree. After college, she was in the Peace Corps for two years and then traveled visiting numerous countries, including Malaysia, India and China, always helping people along the way. Nikki spoke often of Malaysia as her favorite foreign country visited during her years in the Peace Corps. Nikki taught high school science and was a guidance counselor at Findlay High School before her retirement in 1998. Nikki was an animal lover with a special fondness for dogs. There were many days when she was dog-sitting four or five neighborhood dogs or they just came over to visit with her. She cared deeply for each and every one of them. She will be buried with the ashes of two of her previous pets, Dessie, a Yorkie, and Buddy, a Terrier mix. Nikki was a very independent person, who loved crossword and jigsaw puzzles. There would always be a card table set up in her living room with a partially completed puzzle on it. She was an avid reader, always having multiple books on loan from the library, where she was well known. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends and her Dachshund, Willie. In addition to her parents, Nikki was preceded in death by her brother, Mike. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ruth Drossel, nephews, Steve Shelli M. Drossel of Woodville and Brent W. Drossel of Oak Harbor, great niece, Sydney Drossel and great nephew, Seth Drossel. According to the familys wishes, a memorial service will be held in the spring of 2014. Memorial contributions for Nikki may be given to the Sandusky County Humane Society, 2520 Port Clinton Rd., Fremont, OH 43420; Birchard Public Library-Woodville Branch, 101 E. Main St., Woodville, OH 43469; or the Autism Society of Northwest Ohio, 6629 W. Central Ave. Suite 1, Toledo, OH 43617.
