Nicholas G. Mancy

February 26, 1969 — November 14, 2022

Nicholas George Mancy died Monday, November 14, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 53 years old.

Nick was born in Toledo on February 26, 1969, the youngest child of George and Sarah Mancy.

He grew up in the Sylvania area and spent many memorable summers swimming and diving at Sylvania Country Club. He graduated from Sylvania Northview High School (1987) and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University (1991). Following his college graduation, Nick attended The University of Toledo Law School and earned his Juris Doctorate (1994).

Nick practiced law for seven years; first in Columbus, OH for the American Federation of Teachers and later in labor law for Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor. During this time, in July of 1997, he married the love of his life, Monica Frank Mancy and they started their family. In 2003 he made a career change and opened Shorty’s True American Roadhouse in Toledo. After much success at Shorty’s, Nick opened Back Forty in 2016 which specializes in catered gatherings, both in-house and off-site. Nick was well known in the community for his friendly, outgoing nature, his generosity, and his contagious smile. Like his late father, George, Nick appreciated being in a business where his customers were enjoying themselves and celebrating happy occasions. He considered himself fortunate to have all three of his children working at Back Forty with him over the past several years and he had many long-term employees that he considered family.

Watching his children, George, Claudia, and Margi, perform in school and local community plays and participate in school activities through the years made him proud and brought him great joy. He looked forward every spring to their family vacation to the South Beach area where they took full advantage of the great restaurants around Miami. He and Monica also had many memorable fall vacations in Las Vegas where they enjoyed the weather and dined at both new restaurants as well as their old favorites.

As an avid Ohio State football fan, what would have made Nick happy would be for people to meet with friends, share a toast in his name, and send out a loud “Go Bucks” in his memory.

Nick is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Monica (Frank); his children, George, Claudia, and Margi; his siblings, Michael, and Dena (John Harding); his in-laws, Kathy and Mark Frank and family, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sarah (Rahal) Mancy.

Visitation will be Thursday from 3-7 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 18, 2022. Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
