Neva B. Loader Karl, age 100, passed away on October 25, 2011 at Swan Creek Retirement Village of Toledo. She was born on May 30, 1911 in Hancock County, Ohio, the middle of five children, to Ernest and Elsie Loader. Growing up on a farm near Vanlue, Ohio, Neva moved to Toledo during the Great Depression and became a beautician. After WWII she married Louis Karl who had been a sergeant in the Army Air Corps. They moved to Maumee where Neva took the full-time job of housewife and mother. Neva was very active in the Maumee First Presbyterian Church serving as Sunday school teacher, choir member, deacon, elder, and in womens organizations including the Toledo chapter of Church Women United. She was active in the Garden Club and Girl Scouts. She also enjoyed baking pies and cookies, and sewing and knitting, making many of her own and her daughters clothes. An avid gardener with a true green thumb, her home was surrounded by lovely plants and flowers inside and out. Neva and Louis moved to Swan Creek in 1992 when it first opened, and she remained active with the Swan Creek Singers and various committees. She was one of the last surviving Pioneers of the facility. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Elsie Loader, sisters Edna Loader and Gertrude Earl Roller, her brothers Charles Loader and Deloss Loader and her husband Louis A. Karl. She is survived by her daughter Linda Chandler and son-in-law David Hoekzema of East Palatka, FL and several step-children and step-grandchildren and also by several nieces and nephews and their children. Nevas daughter and son-in-law which to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of NW Ohio and to the Assisted Living nurses and staff at Swan Creek for the care and compassion they gave to Neva during her last weeks. The family invites friends to attend a memorial service at the new Chapel at Swan Creek Retirement Village, 5916 Cresthaven Ln, Toledo on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Burial at the Zion Bloom Cemetery in Vanlue will be private. Professional services were provided by the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, Maumee, Ohio.
