Neil E. Downs, Ii

Neil E. Downs II, 61, passed away on November 30, 2018 in Maumee, OH. Neil was born on December 28, 1956 to Neil and Shirley (Ferguson) Downs. He graduated from Maumee High School, class of 1975, where he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 30+ years, from which he retired in 2015. Throughout his whole life, he was a die-hard Michigan Wolverines and Oklahoma Sooners fan, an all around sports fanatic. Besides sports, his greatest loves were his girls, his daughters and his granddaughters. He shared his love of sports and music, instilling in them his appreciation for both. As a season ticket holder, he would go to every Michigan game he could with his daughter and son-in-law. He taught his girls the love of the sport. One of his favorite past times was attending various concerts with his daughters, especially Bob Seger. Besides football and music, he also enjoyed fishing and traveling. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his granddaughters. He was their Pappy. From calling and seeing them every day, to kissing them good night, they always brought a smile to his face. His four girls were his world, as he was theirs. He was the kindest, most generous person, filled with love and light. He would, and has, given the shirt off his back and he will sorely be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald and Marian Downs and Elmer and Lillian Ferguson, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, his love Jodi Pratt, daughters Nikki (Aaron) Haines, Jessie (Dan) Moses, their mother Katie Shannon, granddaughters Molly (Moe) and Lilly (Buggy) Moses, sister Kelly (Jeff) Eckel, nephew Richard (Christine) Eckel, as well as numerous cousins, neighbors and friends. A Gathering of Friends and Family will be after 4 P.M. on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee, where a sharing of memories and a celebration of his life will be held at 7:30 P.M. Graveside Services for Neil will be held Saturday at 11 A.M. at Riverside Cemetery, Maumee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Motts Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI.
