Neal A. Benore

May 4, 1950 — October 7, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Neal A. Benore on October 7, 2021, at his home in Sylvania. Neal was born on May 4, 1950, in Toledo to the late George and Alma (Griggs) Benore and graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1968. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War where he was a Purple Heart recipient. As a young man before joining the Marines, he worked with his father, George, at the family furniture store - Ohio Furniture. Following is a note directly from Neal: “Corporal in USMC. In 1969 I was wounded at Hamburger Hill. Lost some good friends that day. I was flown by helicopter to be treated at a field hospital. After that to Guam, then Germany and eventually to the U.S. at Bethesda. After months in the hospital, I came home only to find out I was being disrespected. What hurt the most is that it was from my own generation along with friends. They were college kids I grew up with. I too was going to college, but it was after I got back from Vietnam - which I did. I’ve NEVER FORGOTTEN NOR HAVE I EVER FORGIVEN! I know this is negative and Terrie may not want to write this for me, but it’s my obit and what I want. I want them to know that after 50 plus years this is how I feel about them….Neal”. Neal’s family would sincerely like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, Aides, Housekeeping, cafeteria staff at Toledo Hospital - ICU/ACU/Flower Rehab for their loving care and dedication to Neal and his family since May. Left to cherish his memory are his companion, Therisa (Terrie) Steele; children, Christopher (Gloria) and Brian (Eve) Johnson, and “Cutie Pie” Tanya Benore; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jordan (Cory), Autumn (Matthew), and Austin (Kennedy); great grandson, Aidan; brother George (Mary) Benore and sister, Barbara McPartland; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His Bobco golf league (so many special friends). We would ESPECIALLY like to honor his 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines family - from Neal’s family to you “thank you for your service and welcome home” - God Bless you all!! Please know how much we appreciate and love you all. So many other good friends as well! Words cannot describe how heartbroken his family is by the passing of this great, great man! He was one of a kind - honest, loving, and loyal till the end and we were all so blessed to have had him in our lives. Rest in God’s arms! Friends and family are invited to visit on Tuesday, October 12 from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday, October 13, 2021, from noon until the time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps and committal services will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Contributions in Neal’s name are suggested to the Marine Corp. Toys for Tots
