Nasr Mansour

Dr. Nasr A. Mansour, beloved pediatrician, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, U.S. Army veteran, and community leader, passed away on August 13, 2026, at the age of 97.

Dr. Mansour was born in El-Bireh, Palestine, near Jerusalem. His early life instilled in him a deep appreciation for family, faith, education, and service. In 1949, he left Palestine to pursue higher education in the United States, sailing from Beirut and arriving in New York with limited financial resources but great determination.

He worked while attending college and ultimately graduated from the University of Maryland in 1954 with a degree in microbiology. Following graduation, he served honorably in the United States Army at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., working in the diagnostic laboratory, microbiology, and medical research. During his service there, he participated in the care of President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

While serving in the Army, Dr. Mansour returned home and married his beloved wife, Waseela. After completing his military service, he pursued his dream of becoming a physician, studying medicine at the University of Paris and later at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, where he earned his medical degree.

He returned to the United States for further medical training, including an internship at Mercy Hospital in Toledo and pediatric residency training at Columbus Children's Hospital.

Dr. Mansour chose Toledo as the place to raise his family and establish his career. The presence of an Islamic community was important to him, as he wanted his children to grow up both American and Muslim. In September 1967, he opened his private pediatric practice and eventually maintained offices on both the east and west sides of Toledo.

For 30 years, Dr. Mansour cared for generations of children throughout Toledo and Northwest Ohio. He was known for his compassion, accessibility, and personal attention to his patients and their families. He retired from private practice in 1997.

Dr. Mansour also believed strongly in fairness and equal opportunity. When foreign-trained physicians faced barriers in the medical community, he joined other physicians in advocating for change. Those efforts led to the formation of the International Association of Physicians, and he served as its first president.

A devoted Muslim, Dr. Mansour was a founder and longtime member of the Board of Elders of the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo. Along with other community leaders, he played an important role in the growth of the Islamic Center and its move from Bancroft Street to its present home in Perrysburg. He also supported interfaith dialogue and greater understanding among people of different faiths and backgrounds.

Despite his many accomplishments, Dr. Mansour was a humble man. His greatest pride was his family and the opportunity to serve others.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, and by their daughter, Jinan Mansour, who passed away in Palestine.

He is survived by his six children: Linda Mansour (Ziad Ismail), Randa Mansour-Shousher (Hussien Shousher), Rita Mansour, Leena Mansour, Waleed Mansour, and Fareed Mansour (Reham Mansour); his seven grandchildren, Yasmeen, Tarek, Marwan, Deena, Nadia, Nawal, and Dean; and eight great-grandchildren.

Dr. Mansour leaves behind a legacy in the generations of children he cared for, the physicians he stood beside, the Islamic community he helped build, and, above all, the family he loved.

May God accept his good deeds, forgive his shortcomings, reunite him with his beloved Waseela and Jinan, and grant him the highest place in heaven.
