Naomi M. Akins, 77, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Naomi was born on January 03, 1937 in Dale, OH, the daughter of Dale and Myrtle M. Adams Thompson. On September 19, 1959 in Louisville, OH, she married Kenneth Akins, MD and he preceded her in death on January 30, 2014. Naomi worked as a pharmacist for McBains Pharmacy, Stadium Pharmacy, Perry Pharmacy, Lanes Pharmacy, Bassetts Pharmacy and Community Market Pharmacy. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Port Clinton, OH, where she played piano for Sunday services. Naomi was a member of the Port Clinton Artist Club and the PEO Scholarship fund for girls going to college. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Survivors include: Daughter: Cynthia Joseph Thornton; Son: Gregory P. Michele Solarchick Akins; Grandchildren: Abby Rachel Thornton and Quay, Beckett Rhya Akins; Sister: Norma Edward Hohertz; Brother-in-Law: Edward Hohertz; Nephew: Thomas Jennifer Akins; Niece: Mary Beth Chris Colvill; Nephews: Jason Jeremy Hohertz; Great-Nieces: Caroline, Margaret Grace Akins. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers: David James Thompson. Visitation will be 5-8PM, Friday, February 14, 2014, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, OH. Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00AM, Saturday, February 15, 2014, in Faith United Methodist Church, Port Clinton, OH. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery.
