Nancy M. Wade, age 87, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Nancy was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 1, 1927 to Robert and Gladys Mikesell. She was a graduate of Ottawa Hills High School and attended Bradford Jr. College before graduating from Mt. Vernon College. Nancy ran a day care center for 3-4 year olds at Ottawa Hills High School over the summer months throughout her college years with her friend Sue Olander. After graduation, she taught pre-school at Maumee Valley Country Day School. Nancy married George S. Wade in 1949 and began volunteering with the Toledo Hospital Auxiliary pushing the book cart through the hospital floors. She was a longtime volunteer for the Red Cross and drove the motor corp for years before eventually becoming co-chairman of all volunteers. Nancy later served on the Red Cross Board and had the opportunity to travel with them to numerous national conventions. She was instrumental in organizing relief efforts after major disasters such as plane crashes, tornadoes, fires, and floods. Nancy was a longtime member of the Junior League of Toledo and transferred her membership to the Junior League of Boca Raton, FL after moving there. She served on the board of the Sunset House on Indian Rd. and helped plan parties and entertainment for the ladies there. Her family donated the first van to assist in transporting residents to the doctor and other appointments. Nancy and George were members of Toledo Country Club, Deerfield Country Club in Deerfield, FL, and Manistee Golf and Country Club in Manistee, MI. They were also members of Portage Yacht Club where their family was very active in the sailing program. Nancy and her family spent every summer in Northern Michigan. They built two cottages to house all of the children and grandchildren where they enjoyed all sports winter through summer. Nancy owned and managed Kaleidoscope Needlepoint with different partners for 20 years turning the hobby that she loved into a successful business. Nancy is survived by her children, Debbie S. Wade, George S. Tim Wade (Chris), Amy Degucz (David), and Robert M. Wade (Marina); nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George. Services will be private.
