Nancy Ann Taylor

Nancy Ann Taylor, 87, passed away on February 5, 2022, at home surrounded by her family.  Born in Arcadia, OH to loving parents Merritt and Norene Moore, Nancy moved to Toledo as a child.  There she had a happy childhood, growing up alongside her uncle Larry Good.  After her graduation from Scott High School, Nancy worked at the Commodore Perry Hotel where she had many fond memories.  She attended the University of Toledo where she was active in her Tri Delta sorority, but her studies were paused due to her marriage and the birth of her two daughters, Kim and Lana.  After staying home to raise her daughters, Nancy went back to the University of Toledo and earned her education degree.  Nancy taught typing and business at Bowsher High School for over 30 years, during this time she also earned her Masters of Education.  At Bowsher she taught generations of students and made many life-long friends.  Nancy retired only when she looked around at her colleagues and realized she was the oldest still there.

Nancy was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church (now Faith United Lutheran Church), and was a fixture in her pew on Sunday mornings.  She was heavily involved at Bethany, where she taught both Bible School and Sunday School, served on church council, sang in the choir, and played bells.  Nancy had a generous spirit; she knitted many sweaters and hats for World Vision.

Nancy was passionate about knitting, giving her friends and family members hundreds of beautifully knitted dishcloths over the years.  She collected nearly a thousand dog figurines from all over the world.  Nancy also enjoyed solitaire, word searches, and watching her “stories.”  She was particular about her yard, and even this fall could be seen tidying and picking up sticks.

With her quick wit, distinctive laugh, and stubborn streak, Nancy was the heart of any family gathering.  No holiday was complete without her ice cream pie.  Nancy deeply valued time spent with her family.  In addition to her daughters, Kim Pezzin and Lana (Michael) Saylor, Nancy fiercely loved her grandchildren, John, Jacob, and Anthony Pezzin, and Rachel (Peter Jensen) and Zachary Saylor.  Her grandchildren have many fond memories of sleepovers at Nana’s, hearing stories of her childhood and youth, and family lunches after church.  Nancy’s family is devastated by her passing, but are comforted by their abundance of wonderful memories with her and the knowledge that they will be reunited in heaven.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022, from 11 am - 1 pm with services beginning at 1 pm at Walker Funeral Home on Sylvania Avenue.  Interment will be at Ottawa Hills Cemetery.  The family suggests memorials to Faith United Lutheran Church or Lutheran Social Services of Northwestern Ohio.
