Nancy C. Stonerook, 87, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. She was born on June 7, 1932 in Sandusky, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes (Warren) Shupe. Nancy graduated from Sandusky High School in 1950, retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company, and raised three children. She met and married Henry Stonerook in 1976 and moved to Catawba. She then volunteered at the Catawba School Kindergarten and in the cafeteria. After a vacation to Florida they moved to Okeechobee, Florida, where she was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10539, Okeechobee Lake. She also volunteered at Raulerson Hospital in the gift shop. She retired after 15 years from banking and then moved to Valrico, Florida, where she lived at Strawberry Ridge and worked in the office for 4 years. During that time, she enjoyed boating, fishing & golf. She enjoyed her children & grandchildren, and after Henry passed away in 2009, she then moved back to Port Clinton to be near her family. Her biggest hobby was crocheting hats and scarves for less fortunate children and doing a lot of cooking for her family. Survivors include her son, James (Gerri) Dunfee, Sandusky; step-son, Henry (Janet) Stonerook, Jr., Westerville; daughter, Cheryl (Tom) Wieber, Port Clinton; step-daughter, Susan (John) Cochran, Dover, Florida; daughter, Kymberli (Michael) Cassidy, Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Amy Stonerook Misch, Shaun Stonerook, Rebecca Cochran Smrekar, Angie Dunfee Watts, Michael Cochran, Brandon Wieber, Derek Wieber, Laurie Dunfee Kirchner, Riley Cassidy; great-grandchildren, Haley & Heather Smrekar, Andrew Misch, Jacob & Matthew Watts, Adam & Troy Kirchner, Alexi & Kai Stonerook, Luke & Noah Cochran, & McKenna Wieber; sister-in-law, Nancy Hasenmeier, Vermilion, Ohio; cousins, nieces, nephews, and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Henry of 33 years; her companion cat, Kit-So; her only brother, Walter Shupe Hasenmeier; infant grandson, Bryan Dunfee, mother, Agnes Warren Shupe, deceased 1938; father, Charles Shupe. She was adopted and raised by Carl & Frances Hasenmeier in 1940. There will be no visitation or services as Nancy’s wish was to be cremated. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870; Magruder Hospital Oncology Dept, 615 Fulton Street, Port Clinton; or to the Humane Society of Ottawa County, 2424 Sand Road, Port Clinton, Ohio 43452. The family is especially thankful to Stein Hospice’s Doctors, Nurses, and Aides, and to the Oncology department of Magruder Hospital. Arrangements were entrusted to the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, Ohio.
