Rev. Dr. Nancy Anne Mugford, 59, died August 7, 2013 at Ebeid Hospice at Flower Hospital in Sylvania. Until recently, Nancy was a long-term pastor at Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Grover, North Carolina as well as serving as a licensed drug rehabilitation counselor. Before her call to pastor at Shiloh, Nancy was a hospital chaplain in North and South Carolina. She also worked for many years in the hearing impaired area for Sprint telecommunications. Nancy had a 4 month battle with brain cancer that was fought both at Flower Hospital as well as at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. The family expresses our appreciation for those professionals, especially Dr. Glenn Lesser at Wake, who extended her time with us. We also are thankful for the care she received at Franciscan in Sylvania, Flower Hospital and especially for the people at Ebeid Hospice. We also thank Vicki Johnson, for her extraordinary support of Nancy in her time of need. Nancy was born in Everett, Mass, daughter of Alfred and Dorothy Mugford both deceased. She graduated from Bay Village High School in 1972, Denison University Music, 1976 and did post- graduate work at a number of Universities including the University of Miami, Coral Gables Music Therapy and Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, VA, where she earned her Doctorate of Ministries. Nancy enjoyed traveling, writing, playing with her chocolate lab, Kavannah and spending time with family and friends. Her passion was service to people as both a pastor and a counselor. We all have our own memories of Nancy and will miss her greatly but our feelings are summed up in the words from friend Joyce Houser, A light has truly gone out in our world but the heavens are shining brighter.
