Nancy M. Ihnat, 96, of Catawba Island, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Otterbein Assisted Living facility in Lakeside-Marblehead, OH. Nancy was born on February 23, 1928, in St. Johnsbury, VT, to Anthony and Albina Mollica. She attended St. Johnsbury Academy, graduating in 1946. Nancy continued her education at the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT, graduating with a B.A. in 1950.
She taught Latin, French, and English at Craftsbury Academy in Craftsbury Corner, VT, for two years and at Rockville High School in Vernon, CT, for four years. She then worked for IBM as a systems service engineer for six years. On May 5, 1962, she married Emil R. Ihnat in West Hartford, CT. Nancy was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton, OH. She was also a member of the Catawba Island Club and enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, and socializing with many friends.
Nancy is survived by her brother, Onofrio Mollica of Newington, CT; her daughter, Trish (Ted) Brunner of Oceanside, CA; her son, Michael Ihnat of Oklahoma City, OK; her grandchildren, Sara Brunner, Richard Brunner, Megan Brunner, Austin Ihnat, and Evan Ihnat; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; her brothers, Ralph Mollica and William (Billy) Mollica; and her sisters, Mary (Betty) Parente and Joanne Babic.
Visitation will be held at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, Ohio on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 from 4-7 pm. On Wednesday, July 24, the Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, Ohio at 10 am with Fr. Jonathan Wight officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery in Marblehead, Ohio.
