Nancy Jo Floyd Harshman, daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, friend, therapist and the giver of love and kindness to all, passed away on Sunday June 23rd at 11:02am, surrounded by the love of her family.
Nancy was born on September 19th, 1943 to Robert Floyd and Jean (Rettew) Floyd. She was one of 5 siblings and was the middle child. Her older sister's Barbara Floyd McGowan and Lynne Floyd Sexton, both preceded her in death. Nancy has two younger brothers Robert Floyd and Jim Floyd. Nancy loved all of her siblings passionately.
During college, Nancy studied in Italy for a semester. She loved Italy. The Vatican, Trevi Fountain, the food and the beauty of Italy. While she was studying in Italy, 27 different Italian men proposed marriage to her. Her beauty both inside and out was ever present and ever radiating. The Italians could clearly see how special she was.
Upon returning from Italy Nancy met the love of her life Paul E. Harshman. Their love was undeniable. They were married for 43 years until Paul's passing in 2009. Nancy's love for Paul never faded.
Nancy started her career as a teacher and soon they began to start a family. She put her career on hold as she gave birth to four children. Andy, Erin, Casey and Charlie. While raising her family and to save money, Nancy did it all. She made clothes for her children, had a garden, canned foods, cooked, cleaned and so much more. All while raising her children in the most loving, kind, caring and compassionate way. She volunteered for PTO events, cooked food for sports teams, made countless lunches and dinners, drove her children to sporting events and practices year round.
During the time of raising her family, Nancy started to pursue her career. She worked tirelessly day and night, around her family's needs, to go to school and earn her PHD in Psychology. Dr. Nancy Harshman was born in 1985. For the next 39 years as a Doctor, Nancy touched the lives of countless human beings in her private practice. She had an amazing ability to be present and open with any human that had the pleasure of being wrapped up in her blanket of love. The next thing you knew, she was gently helping you open up your heart and soul in ways that you never thought were possible. She helped you overcome that which seemed impossible to overcome. She helped repair broken hearts and broken minds, in the most loving, non judgmental way.
Anyone who had the pleasure of this experience with Nancy, whether they were a client, a friend, a family member, a friend of one of her children, or someone she met two seconds ago, walked away feeling like they too were one of her children. She did not know how to love any other way. She gave her love unconditionally to every single person, NO MATTER WHAT. Nancy saw the promise in you. She saw the love in you. She helped you see what you couldn't, while at the same allowing you to see/understand that you had (have) all the answers inside of you the entire time.
Nancy wrote a book called "Learn your Story, Find your Power". By understanding who you are and your life experiences, you can find/ unlock the power inside of you. Let Nancy's love fill your heart. Let her kindness and compassion guide how you might live your life. The greatest gift to Nancy, the greatest joy she could possibly receive from this life, is to know that the ripples of her love and kindness will radiate forever.
