Nancy Flavell, 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 15th near Fort Lauderdale, FL. Born Nancy Marie Vasold, April 9, 1919 to Leo and Nellie (Hallett) Vasold in Flint, Michigan, she was raised in Toledo, Ohio. She attended DeVilbiss High School was a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from the University of Toledo with degrees in Art and Education, and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She loved studying at the Toledo Museum of Art. She also attended classes at the Universities of Michigan and Wisconsin. Nancy taught High School Art and English at Perrysburg High from 1942 to 1954. She cherished teaching and being involved with her students. During World War II, she supported the war effort driving a forklift at a local army depot. In 1953 she married Toledo native G. Edward Flavell and they had three boys. The family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1965, and while her family embraced Florida, her heart always remained in Toledo, and she considered it her home. Nancy was a homemaker while Ed was an engineer at IBM. In their later years, they spent summers in Waynesville, N.C. She was an amazing mother and artist, and beyond family, watercolor was her passion. She was also a member of PEO. Nancy is preceded in death by husband Ed, and son Philip, and survived by sons George (Robin), James (Leslie), and four grandchildren, Malcolm, Jonathan, Brigitte, and Marshall. Friends are invited to join in a public service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, 24, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Toledo Memorial Park, 6382 Monroe St., Sylvania, where burial will follow. Please meet at the cemetery gates. The Walker Funeral home (419-841-2422) is assisting the family.
