Nancy J. Celusta, 91, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2022, at Toledo Hospital, surrounded by her three sons. Nancy graduated from St. Ursula Academy and went on to acquire her master’s degree from the University of Toledo shortly after the passing of her husband John. Nancy had a passion for education and teaching. She taught English as a 2nd language for many years before her retirement.
Nancy Jean Celusta was born on November 15, 1930, the daughter of Forrest Tussing and Lillian (Tallman) Lynch. Nancy married John O. Celusta on June 26, 1954, and he preceded her in death.
Nancy returned to teaching upon the death of her husband, as a reading and English 2 nd language specialist. As a result of her teaching, Nancy was able to travel extensively. Nancy always said, “I’ve learned so much through my teaching, I’m a lucky girl and woman.”
Nancy was involved in numerous volunteer opportunities. Some of which include President of Old Orchard PTO, Vice President of Brisson Association at St. Francis De Sales, Junior League board member, and Charter Member of Toledo Bar Association Auxiliary. As president of Toledo Bar Association, she founded Court Tours for High School students, teaching children firsthand the consequences of speeding, intoxication, and the danger of opioids.
Left to cherish her memories include her three sons, Chris and Cindy (Albaugh) Celusta, John and Joseph Celusta; three grandchildren, Shannon (Kyle) Ruhe, Michael and Bradley Celusta; two great-grandchildren, Carson and Reese Ruhe; and one sister, Joyce (Tom) Lawniczak. In addition to her husband, Nancy is preceded in death by her sister, Marcia Lynch and a close friend, Dr. E. Ford Crider, M.D.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022, from 3:00-7:00 PM at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 West Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held at Corpus Christi University Parish, 2955 Dorr St. on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 10:30 AM with Father Olszewski officiating. Followed by a luncheon. Burial will be private.
