Nancy Burton

Nancy Stine Burton, 88, of Perrysburg, OH, died August 3, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee, OH. Nancy was born in 1928 in Lincoln, NE, the daughter of Elwood P. Stine and Lora Lee Stine. She married John Louis Burton in 1951, in Chicago, IL. In March, they celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary. At Northwestern University, Nancy belonged to the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority with which she stayed active throughout her life. She graduated from Northwestern in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Nancy obtained her Masters degree in Library Science from CW Post College while working as a children’s librarian in Commack, NY and raising two children. Following her move to Perrysburg in 1978, Nancy devoted much time to volunteer work at The Sight Center of Northwest Ohio, receiving the John Goerlich Distinguished Service Award in 1989. She was an active parishioner at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Perrysburg, and was active in local efforts to distribute food to the hungry. John and Nancy travelled extensively around the US and beyond, and were active square dancers for several decades. Nancy is survived by her husband, John; daughter and son-in law, Cate and Eric Eales of Kelowna, BC; son and daughter-in-law, The Rev. John and Dr. KC Burton of Windham, CT; grandsons, Christopher Burton of Seoul, Korea and Silas Burton of NYC. A Memorial Service will held Friday, August 11, at 11:00 am at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 871 E Boundary St, Perrysburg, OH 43551 where Nancy’s ashes will be interred. Her family will greet her friends during a reception following the service. Memorial contributions in Nancy’s name may be made to The Sight Center of Northwest Ohio, 1002 Garden Lake Pkwy, Toledo, OH 43614. Arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133).
