Nancy Ann Balzer, nurturing mother, Nana, and extraordinary friend, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 22, 2022, after a courageous battle with illness. She was born in East Chicago, IN on January 18, 1957, to James and Rosalie (Keepes) Meny. Nancy was a 1975 graduate of Griffith High School and attended Calumet College of St. Joseph. She was a very skilled cake decorator and worked at various bakeries before opening her own, Nancy’s Fancies , which she operated for over 5 years in Griffith, IN. She involved her loving family as part of the business, and even was starting to teach her young grandchildren the finer points of cake decorating. Many memories were created at the bakery and will be cherished by her family for years to come. During her time in Indiana, she also devoted time to working in the parish office of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Being that she had a creative mind, Nancy excelled at craft making and art projects. She especially loved creating ceramics and painting. She was a gifted scrapbooker and enjoyed sharing her masterpieces with her family and friends. Nancy was a woman of strong faith. Prayer helped Nancy throughout her entire life, particularly in the last several years. Her faith enabled her to help and support all of those around her. Her impact on the lives of her friends, family, and neighbors, will never be forgotten.
Nancy is survived by her children, Amber (Don) Leer, Christopher (Tabitha) Balzer, Julianne (Tomas) Thain; her grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as Nana, Jacob and Mason Leer, Cyrus and Chester Balzer, Fernando and Gabriella Thain; siblings, Donna (Keith) Aubuchon, Linda Pierce, Karen (John) Hudson, Mary (Rick) Balding; sister-in-law, Lori Meny; many nieces, nephews, and countless friends, neighbors, and fellow parishioners. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, James “Jim” Meny.
