Najat K. Swade, 81, of Sylvania, passed away on December 25, 2021, with her daughters by her side. Najat was born in Kuneitra, Syria to Toufic and Fawzia Kutaish. In 1960, Najat married her husband Nazem Swade and they started raising their family. In June of 1967 they were forced to uproot and flee to Damascus due to the war. Together with her husband they opened a tailor shop and were widely recognized for their talents. Najat and her family eventually emigrated to the United States in 1979 to give their children a better life. After settling in Toledo, Ohio, Nazem and Najat bought Alexis Tailors where they worked side-by-side for over 30 years. Najat will always be remembered for her sweet demeanor, thoughtfulness, and lovely smile. Najat is survived by her daughters, Sahar (Dr. Henry) Naddaf and Manar (Dr. Ahed) Nahhas; grandchildren, Andrew, Amanda, Alexandra, and Alicia; great granddaughter, Chloe; sister, Naziha Obeid and daughter Mona Mekhail; brother, Dr. Nadeem Kutaish; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nazem; her son, Jamil; grandchildren, Brooke and Christopher; her parents; and brother, Dr. Nazih Kutaish. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM, Monday, December 27, 2021, at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, 3754 Woodley Road, Toledo OH 43606, where Trisagion prayers will be recited at 7 PM. For the safety and health of all, the family will receive condolences at the Cathedral. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 28, 2021, with additional visitation beginning at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial donations are suggested to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral.
