Muriel Ruth Myers, age 84, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2025. She was born in Fremont, Ohio on February 13, 1940, to Carl and Eulalia (Halm) Recktenwald. On November 30, 1957, Muriel married Edwin C. Myers, and he passed away on June 7, 2023.
Muriel graduated from St. Joseph High School in Fremont and spent many years caring for her family of five. Her passion for craftsmanship led her to work as a seamstress at S.E. Hyman. Her skills in sewing, knitting, crocheting, and other forms of needlework were used at home. Muriel’s creativity also flourished in her love of making boat covers and other crafts, which she enjoyed sharing with others. She was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross for many years, offering her time and energy to those in need.
In her later years, Muriel and her late husband, Edwin, found joy in taking cross-country train and bus trips, always with a sense of adventure. Together, they spent over two decades going to garage sales and auctions, finding treasures and making lasting friendships along the way. Muriel supported Edwin’s love for fishing, and in their younger years, their date nights often involved peaceful evenings by the water.
Muriel had a feisty personality that shone through in all she did. She was a devoted fan of the Cleveland Indians and enjoyed trips to the Chinese Buffet, where she loved indulging in crab legs. Her love for her mini poodle, Tiny, brought her much happiness, and she cherished the companionship of her beloved pet.
She is survived by her children, Timothy (Mary) Myers, Charles (Lori) Myers, and Joseph (Billie) Myers; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two more on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, her parents, her brother Carl (Anne) Recktenwald, and her sister Sally (John) Wagner.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 165 E. Water Street, Oak Harbor, Ohio 43449, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel.
Memorial donations in Muriel’s memory may be made to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
