Muriel Gurtz

Muriel Mert L. Gurtz, 83, of Catawba Island, passed away on Sunday, February 08, 2009 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center, Port Clinton, OH. She was born November 01, 1925 in Sandusky, OH, the daughter of Edward and Glenna Smart Stout. On November 18, 1953 in Sandusky OH, she married Henry C. Gurtz. She was a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, OH. In her former years, she was very active in church and church council and the Ladies Elks. Mert was an avid bowler, bridge player, and golfer, and was a 2 time golf league champion at the Catawba Island Club. She enjoyed the company of her family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include: Loving Husband of 55 years: Henry C. Gurtz of Catawba Island; Daughters: Cindy Mark Slobodian of York, PA and Glenna Mike Lykens of Indianapolis, IN; Son: Steve Tammy Gurtz of Hilliard, OH; Grandchildren: Kristin Kelley Lykens, Emily Slobodian, Justin Patrick Gurtz; Great-Granddaughter: Ella Sakaras; Brother: Donald Stout of Sandusky, OH and many loving nieces nephews. Mert was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Loyal, Ross, Wesley and Richard, sisters: Madeline, Evangeline and Ella. Visitation will be from 5-8PM, Tuesday, February 10, 2009 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, Port Clinton, OH. Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Dr. Kurt Borows Jr. at 10:00AM, Wednesday, February 11, 2009 in Resurrection Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery.
