Mitchell Anderson

February 24, 1935 — April 9, 2024

Mitchell Paul Anderson, 89, of Port Clinton, OH passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at his residence. He was born on February 24, 1935 in Prudenville, MI to Earl Robert and Genevieve (Gendrau) Anderson. He grew up in Big Bay, Michigan and went by the nickname “Mickey” while there. Mitch eloped with his sweetheart, Norma Jean Apling, and they were married nearly 69 years, before she preceded him in death on August 10, 2022.

Mitch worked as a mechanic and got his start at Baumer-Whipple in Oak Harbor, OH. In 1979, he started his own business from scratch, Transmissions Unlimited in Port Clinton, OH and he worked there until his retirement in 2015. Over the last 10 years of his working years, he mainly focused on restoring antique cars. He got antique cars from all over the country, restoring them bumper to bumper, and he even worked on General George Patton’s domestic Jeep. Mitch could test drive a car by listening to the sound of it and knowing what it needed. He loved jigsaw puzzles, and he eventually built and enjoyed 3-D puzzles. His dog Sadie was a great companion to him. His family will miss his presence with them and the conversations that they had together.

Mitch is survived by his daughter, Mary Anderson, son, Eric (Kassie Jennings-Anderson) Anderson, grandchildren, Heather (Bobby Gray) Dornbusch-Moss, Shelby (Jeremy) Newton, and Jennifer (Greg) Staib, 10 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Bob Anderson.
