Millard E. Stone, Jr., affectionately known as "Stoney," passed away June 21, 2025, at the age of 90 at N.W. Ohio Ebeid Hospice from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Born in Toledo, OH. on March 29, 1935, to Millard E. Stone, Sr. and Eula (Rengo) Stone, he grew up in South Bend, IN. and was a staunch supporter of Notre Dame. Millard was an alumnus of John Adams High School and Indiana University, and a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Strategic Air Command. His love for his country and competitive spirit surfaced early as a 3rd grader when he formed a victory club, leading his classmates to #1 place in collecting coat hangers and newspapers for the WWII effort. His successful career in Sales Management spanned four decades in the Material Handling Industry in IL., OK. and NY. He retired as Vice-President of Towlift, Inc., Trackmobile Division, Northwood, OH.
His love of photography led him to courses at the University of Toledo, and establishing his own photography business. He had the opportunity to study in Oaxaca, MX. with the late renowned photographer, Mary Ellen Mark. His photo biography included numerous exhibition awards and three solo exhibits: Images of Toledo, Spain; The Oklahoma City Bombing aftermath; and Mexico's Dia de los Muertos. His adventurous spirit fueled his love of travel. He explored the beauty and history of the U.S. and Europe --especially Spain and France-- documenting his journeys with his cameras. He shared his passion and knowledge by volunteering in UT's photo lab, assisting students with their projects. He generously donated his skills to his church and other non-profits as a way of giving back to his community. A voracious reader, he also volunteered for READ for Literacy, sharing his enthusiasm for books and learning.
Past memberships include Christ Presbyterian Church, Toledo Museum of Art, Sylvania Country Club, Toledo Friends of Photography and Toledo Botanical Gardens.
Millard enjoyed sports as a baseball catcher, golfer and sailor (Lake Cazenovia, NY). He brought boundless energy, curiosity and joy to every new pursuit. Throughout his health challenges over many years, he maintained his sense of humor, positive attitude and courage to the very end.
Above all, Millard was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Joelyn (Matson) Stone of over 48 years; daughters, Lora (Charlie) Renshaw and Kim Charles, both of Oklahoma City, OK; son, Todd Stone, Castle Rock, CO; son Matt (Laura) Telfer, Hilliard, OH.; daughter, Monni (Steve) Johnstone, Toledo; proud grandpa to Brian, Tyler, April, Brittany, Dustin, Brent, Sean, Halie; six great-grandchildren; sister, Myra Anthony; brother-in-law, Hugh (Jackie) Matson; and many nieces and nephews. Millard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife's parents, Francis and Velma Matson; brothers-in law, Bill (Jean) and Max (Sylvia) Matson; and Dave Anthony.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 2, at 11:00 a.m., at Christ Presbyterian Church, 4225 Sylvania Ave., Toledo, preceded by visitation at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Presbyterian Church or N.W.
