Mildred J. Millie Roesner

Mildred Jeanette Roesner was called to her eternal home at the age of 94 on December 24th, shortly after midnight at Genacross Lutheran Services home in Toledo, Ohio. The fifth of ten children born to Lewis Pulfer and Ethel (Walcott) Pulfer, Mildred “Millie” Jeanette Pulfer was born at home on July 2, 1922, in Quincy, Ohio, Logan County. Mildred was the last surviving member of her beloved Pulfer family: Eileen, Roy (passed at age 2), Mary, Roger, Mildred, Lewis, Jr., Ralph, Russell, Marvin, and Willis. Mildred graduated from Quincy High School in 1941 in a class of 13 students. She continued her studies at Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, living in the dormitory, and graduated in June of 1943 with a Nursing degree. Millie met Fredrick Levi “Joe” Roesner, who was serving in the Navy and working on the building of the Panama Canal, and they married on March 20, 1943. Millie accompanied Joe where he was stationed in the Navy and worked as a nurse at the local hospital. After the war ended in 1945, Millie and Joe settled in Lima, where Joe started his career at Standard Oil and Millie at St. Rita’s Hospital, managed by the nuns at the time. Joe and Millie had three boys, Lewis Edward, Bruce Boyd and Kent “Pete” William. Pete was in first grade when the family moved to Curtice, Ohio, as a result of a work transfer for Joe through Standard Oil. Millie also continued her fruitful nursing career at St. Charles-Mercy Hospital, Oregon, Ohio, where she ultimately worked 35 years, the final 15 years as an ICU Supervisor. She retired in 1984. Millie is preceded in death by her parents, her nine siblings, her husband, Joe, by 20 years, and her oldest son, Lewis, by 16 years. She is survived by her sons, Bruce (Barbara), and Pete (Yogi), five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Millie, also referred to as “Mimi,” was in great health, avid walker, and member of the 500-Mile Club in Arizona during retirement years. Mildred had a deep faith in the Lord and was an active member of St. John Church in Williston, Ohio, for 57 years. You could count on being greeted by Mimi with open arms, a warm smile, and a great sense of humor. Mimi loved her family unconditionally and was a true giver and supporter of all through her positive outlook. A viewing will be held at the Robinson-Walker Robinson Funeral Home, 501 West St., Genoa, Ohio, from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the Genacross Lutheran Services home, located at 2519 Seaman Street, Toledo, Ohio, in the chapel at 11:30 a.m., with a viewing prior commencing at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to join in a fellowship luncheon following the 11:30 a.m. service. Millie will be laid to rest at the Allen Township Cemetery, Williston, Ohio, at 1:30 p.m. The family requests any donations to be submitted to a charity of their choice; suggestions include Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E.
