Mildred M Kucera

April 20, 1931 — March 23, 2012

Mildred Marie 'Milly' Kucera of Oregon, died on Friday, March 23, 2012. She was born to John and Anna (Gajdostik) Kucera in Toledo, Ohio. Milly was a graduate of Clay High School and Mary Manse College. She loved teaching first grade in the Oregon City Schools, retiring after 35 years and always enjoyed seeing her former students. She was a two time cancer survivor and loved gardening, spending many hours among the trees and flowers in her yard. Milly was very interested in other cultures and travelled the world extensively with her sister Georgianna. They saw nearly every country over the years, including the Czech Republic, the homeland of her parents, with her favorite city being Prague. Milly was a member of various organizations in the Czech community, including the National Alliance of Czech Catholics, Friends of the Czech Republic and the National Czech and Slovak Museum. She also supported numerous charities throughout her lifetime. Milly loved her God, family, friends, and country. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law, John Sankiewicz. Surviving are her sisters, Georgianna Kucera and Frances Sankiewicz; nieces and nephews, Joseph (Tila) Sankiewicz, Anne (John) Smith, Susan (Jeff) Payden; great nieces and nephews, Liz, David, and John Sankiewicz, Perry and Alexander Smith, and Jacob, Emily and Paige Payden. Friends may call at the Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, Ohio from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Funeral services on Thursday will begin with prayers at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m., followed be her Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 509 Oswald Street, Toledo, OH 43605. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Alliance of Czech Catholics, 2340 5 61st Ave, Cicero, IL 60650, the National Czech and Slovak Museum, 30 16th Avenue Southwest, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404 or the organization of the donor's choice.
