Mildred Kovac

March 18, 1923 — December 26, 2012

Millie Kovac, age 89, of Sylvania, Ohio passed away at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg on Wednesday, December 26, 2012. She was born on March 18, 1923 in Bentleyville, Pennsylvania to immigrant Serbian parents, August and Anna Drajovich. She was raised by Mary and Pete Kopanich after her fathers death in a coal mining accident. She was a proud coal miners daughter. Millie played basketball in high school when the girls had to cover their elbows and knees and no sweating was allowed. Her husband, George, sought her out at St. Savas choir, but she only agreed to date him if he dropped out of the choir, because he was not a singer. Millie was widowed in 1975, and worked hard as a clerk at Kaufmanns Department Store to insure that her daughter got a college education. Many professional athletes sought her out to help select shirts and ties. Millie was an avid Steelers fan. She was fiercely independent and courageous. She is survived by daughter, Debbie Rick Rump; and grandchildren, Lara and Allyson. Preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Georgia Meyers. A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 2:00 pm at St. Michaels in the Hills, 4718 Brittany Rd., Ottawa Hills. Mildreds family wishes to thank Darlene of the Comfort Keepers; Brenda from The Alzheimers Association; Dr. Isha Butler and the WW Knight Family Practice; Marge, Teresa and her Stonehenge neighbors; Karen and Larry Meyers, all of whom helped take care of Mom in her last years. Their efforts and kindness enabled her to remain in her home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimers Association or St. Michaels in the Hills. Arrangements by Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home. walkerfuneralhomes.com
